LUFTHAUS / Time Construction 4
Institute Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt 2006
In the series of Time Construction, this is an intervention in the course of a private building project. It involves an orchid house with prefabricated parts that was to house a collection of rare species. Before its construction near Frankfurt, I showed it in its fragmentation. The transport of the prefabricated components was stopped in front of the Mathildenhöhe Institute, in close proximity to the Jugenstil buildings. Nine prefabricated components formed a temporary stock for a week. Nine fans, comparable to those that have to guarantee a constant, specific climate inside the future orchid house, were in continuous operation and drew electricity from the Mathildenhöhe Exhibition Institute. Just as the lighting of the Mathildenhöhe Public Park operates at night for safety, the fans also continued to operate. At the end of the one-week shutdown, the transport towards the construction site was resumed in order to be erected there as a private orchid house as planned.
